FUNDRAISING FOR KORD
Rationale for fundraising:  The current funding of KORD activities is from contributions per tone of cane supplied to Kakira Factory by KORD’s two partners, KSW and BSGA. The funds are meant to meet the infrastructure and finance needs of the outgrowers and the general community in Jinja, Kamuli, Iganga and Mayuge Districts. However, KORD cannot meet all the needs of the community with only this limited funding. In order to enhance great impacts on livelihoods of the target beneficiaries, an idea to fundraise from donors was conceived by the KORD Board of Directors.

Progress to date:  A number of concept notes have been sent to different donor agents, some of whose response has been encouraging.  Agents like the UNDP, Maendeleo, the French Embassy and the Royal Netherlands Embassy’s Small Projects Programme, advised us to apply during their next call for concept notes.  We have so far created stronger relationship with World Bank and Danida, from which, in the near future, great benefits may be reaped.

Conclusion:  Given the fact that fundraising is not a simple job and that it requires time, patience and making lots of contacts, KORD considered to open up a Website, which shall be a means of communicating our intentions to the majority of people/potential donors at various levels and importantly fundraising for KORD through the site.

BUSOGA SUGARCANE GROWERS ASSOCIATION
We rented and opened up our BSGA offices in Polota.  Identity Cards are being given out to all members who have brought their passport photos at a cost of 3,000/= and those who have not, are encouraged to bring them or visit our offices to use the available photographer so that we all get Identity Cards.  We are happy to announce that the price of sugar is now 36,000/= per tone.  We are getting an advance of a tune of 34,000/= if one is not AIDED and 22,000/= or 17,000/= for AIDED farmers. Farmers are encouraged to use the opportunity of loans availability with Tropical bank to improve on their cane growing.  Use your BSGA Executive to learn more about this and for loan recommendations.
